I’ll admit to using the word diva with some ignorance but I think I realised the real problem might have more to do with expecting way too much of pop stars that they’d inevitably irritate us (including myself). I suspect that part of the real reason why diva behaviour might have more to do with emotional labour. In the sense of being expected to live up to an image that they can’t always fulfill (and moreso when it’s contrary to their real selves and initial intentions that some learn to write their own songs as an outlet for their catharsis).
That and having to behave well in public when it comes to both strangers and people they’re familiar with (colleagues, friends, family). They can manage it for as much as they can (I think one popstar might eventually grow up and learn to do it better). Even if they’ll get mistreated whenever they’re training to do something or not. But at other times the pressure’s just too much for them to handle that a meltdown’s going to happen anyways.
Despite not being a singer, I also went through similar things before and still do to the point where I think diva behaviour’s a big byproduct of constant stress due to huge demands that it can’t be easily fulfilled or done immediately at times especially when the diva in question’s unwilling and not yet ready to take on challenges. They can help out and do different things when they want or need to.
At other times it’s just inconvenient if they’re not ready and moreso if they’re doing a lot of things that it’s growing to break their hearts and minds anyways.
