Closeted Potters

A fairly old topic since the 2000s which was the time when Harry Potter’s a big rising phenomenon and one that’s controversial due to its apparent indulgence in the occult. Narnia arguably isn’t any better as there are some who think it’s occult. But in many, if not most cases more Evangelicals either like or tolerate Narnia because it doesn’t offend them much and very much in line with their values.

I’ve read Narnia as a child but it’s Harry Potter that kind of pulls me in despite having never read it. Probably because it’s like forbidden fruit, especially when it’s often thought of and not practised. As for their fandoms, while Narnia’s arguably isn’t free from fanfiction (including the smutty kind) but Harry Potter’s fandom is much more vocal from what I know of.

Probably because Narnia’s own fandom overlaps a lot more with the Evangelical subculture whilst Potterfans are strongly within the wider nerd subculture. Not that Narniafans and Evangelicals can’t be nerdy but that Harry Potter’s much worldlier for want of a better word.
