I Don’t Want To Be An American Idiot

If Celestial’s prophecy about America’s economic downfall were to come to pass, then it would be one of the first signs God will undo American influence. If because as Mystery Babylon, much of America’s influence isn’t good. It’s even harmful to other Christian majority countries like the Philippines, lest we end up reaping the whirlwind ourselves. The US dollar would depreciate in value, becoming worthless paper and getting surpassed by both the yuan and the ruble. Even more damning is how the yuan will become the predominant currency in the Philippines, just as the ruble would in Europe and Canada.

I feel the more the Philippines allies itself with China or Canada with Russia, the more American influence will be eventually undone. Maybe not completely well at first, but it will take root and it will happen anyways. While a growing, heavy Chinese influence in the Philippines wouldn’t completely undo Spanish influence, it will take root the more the Philippines begin to follow and emulate China a lot. Similarly for Canada, an increasingly significant Russian influence wouldn’t complete undo American influence given its close cultural and geographical proximity to America it too will take root.

Especially the more Canada sees the blessings of allying more with Russia in WWIII to avoid getting bombed by it the way it will to America, God will undo American influence when he wants and wills to. It could begin with the decline of the American economy, which will accelerate during the new civil war. America will become mocked and despised, even by its allies like the Philippines. I guess if America is Mystery Babylon, then the seven-headed beast represents its allies which will all resent America thus destroying it when they can and will.

Not only will the American economy decline, it will stop exporting its goods elsewhere. In fact American goods will no longer be popular even in Canada, its twin sibling and neighbour. This will take time but in all honesty, it will happen anyways the more many American companies fail. Even before Canada officially becomes a Russian protectorate, while some American businesses will be canny enough to move to Canada for safety and the like Canadians will come to enjoy and request for Russian exports and goods more.

Likewise this will happen similarly between China and the Philippines, American goods will no longer be exported to the Philippines. More and more Chinese goods will be exported and localised here in the Philippines, thus sowing the seeds for strong sinicisation of this country. Chinese culture will become popularised and widely emulated in the Philippines, not just the name order and chopsticks but also its philosophy, beliefs and many other customs. Chinese music will be played more often in Philippine radio, both old and new as American music has become jologs.

Chinese literature will become widely translated and enjoyed in the Philippines, Mandarin language will experience a surge of popularity here as well. Chinese laws will be adopted here in the Philippines, the more we develop strong diplomatic ties with China. It too will take time though I think it will happen more quickly than I thought it would, but as a result of America publicly and officially falling from grace. It may have fallen from grace before, at least spiritually and Biblically speaking but its economic decline will signify falling out of favour with other countries.

Even among its allies to the point where Canada becomes pro-Russia and the Philippines become pro-China.

I think if the prophecy about the Philippines banning anything American were to come to pass, alongside allying more with China in the near future then I think this might represent the end of our friendship with America. Albeit one where America’s failures become blatant to everybody else, Filipinos included, to the point where it becomes a laughingstock. The only people blind to America’s upcoming failures are conservatives, people who believe that America still has the world’s favour even when it will no longer. More and more people will become anti-American, Filipinos included, that anything American will be distrusted.

While it’s going to take some time to undo American influence, but if God will undo American influence in the world and especially in the Philippines then he will really do it. American power and entertainment will become rather unpopular, anything American will be passe and jologs even by Filipinos. American music will be played less often in Philippine radio, as it will be replaced by Chinese, Philippine, Vietnamese and Indonesian music. I even think Japanese and Korean music will be played more often in Philippine radio as well, which means anything American will fall out of favour by many Filipinos in the foreseeable future.

American restaurants will give way to Chinese and East Asian ones, more Chinese and East Asian books will be imported and translated into Tagalog and English here in the Philippines. More Chinese and East Asian programmes will be dubbed into Tagalog, anything Chinese and East Asian will be enthusiastically embraced by many Filipinos. Not just China but also Nigeria as it will also become a formidable superpower, so much so that the Philippines will become properly dewesternised as its biggest influences are non-western. It will take time to undo American influence, but when it does it will make a major transformation for the Philippines.

That’s going from westernised to easternised, more sinicised than we were before. Much closer to other East Asian countries, not just geopolitically but also culturally as well. Anything Asian will be embraced and emulated by many Filipinos, perhaps it’s something I’ll live to see the more it perpetuates throughout the Philippines. The transformation will definitely take time to root and prepare, but when it does that’s when American influence is undone and minimised a lot. This will also be the same in Canada and Britain but with Russia instead, these two will enthusiastically want to become Russian protectorates when WWIII happens.

Not just them but also Ireland as well, since all three don’t want to be bombed by Russia the way it will to America and Switzerland. One amusing consequence that I brought up before is that many Europeans and Canadians will fondly remember the Soyuzmultfilm version of Winnie the Pooh so much as to make nostaglic memes, it will be their Winnie the Pooh as the Disney version does for their parents and grandparents. If God will undo American influence, then it’s plausible the Disney versions will be forgotten over time. Your grandchild will end wondering what are those things you call ‘MTV’ and ‘Nickelodeon’.

If America does become a Russian colony, as prophesised by Celestial, then I can imagine many subsequent Americans developing a strong longing for Canada as they think it represents what their country was originally like. To be fair, there might be a lot of Americans that will flee to Canada for safety when civil war happens. Many of them might be Christians, pastors, priests and monks beginning new lives there, revivals will happen in Canada when they do arrive there. Whatever revival that happened in America will be its last, the more America turns out to be Mystery Babylon. Why would America be the new Babylon and not some other country?

America’s surrounded by both the Pacific and the Atlantic so it’s going have more deep-sea ports than both Iraq and Saudi Arabia ever would, trying to assume that Mystery Babylon lives in a desert deliberately ignores the line where she sits on many waters. Saudi Arabia only faces the Indian ocean, so its deep-sea ports will be fewer in number. Also neither Iraq and Saudi Arabia are anywhere as globally influential as America is, in fact neither of them export porn to the world the way America does. Well nowhere to the same scale America does, so it’s a better candidate for Mystery Babylon. Better and more realistic.

It will be punished for aborting so many children, so much for a country that calls itself Christian. I even think America will become more widely despised in the years to come, or even months if God’s ability to undo American influence turns out to be faster than expected. So American influence will be undone, the way God sees fit and there’s little one can do about it.

Smack My —– Up

Celestial had this prophecy where the Chinese and Russians will turn many Americans into their slaves, a sort of grim comeuppance for what America has done to people before. Let’s not also forget that these two used to be America’s allies during WWII, but the more America sinned and never repented in any way the more that it risks being defeated by those two among many others in WWIII. This should also serve as a warning to us Filipinos given we tend to be too beholden to America, even though we shouldn’t be following America’s dark path to apostasy.

I even think it’s best for the Philippines to ally more with China just as Britain and Canada should with Russia, should all three of them not end up as badly as where America is heading. A China-Philippines alliance would be spiritually better, if because China’s home to a growing Christian population and something the Philippines should supply to instead of giving into America’s disgusting wants. We’re better off caving into China’s spiritual needs more, as we’re East Asia’s only Christian majority country.

America’s downfall will serve as a warning to the Philippines, if because for a supposedly Christian nation it never repents of its sins and that it exports a lot of its rubbish and filth in addition to Christianity. Dumitru Duduman said that America’s spiritual downfall can be traced back to people bringing along their idols with them to an otherwise Christian colony, this gets compounded by people introducing things like astrology onto American soil that its well got poisoned a long time ago. Especially by the time this got localised and turned into Appalachian astrology.

Then we get to LaVeyan Satanism, Mormonism and other false churches, to the point where America’s path to spiritual corruption was already paved. German immigrant astrologers were trailblazers in this sense, having brought along their astrology with them to America. The more the Philippines allies more with America, the more corrupt it got that at any rate it too will face an economic downfall as a consequence for allying itself with Mystery Babylon. When this happens we start turning to China more, all the more exacerbated when America officially stops being a superpower.

If God will undo American influence in the Philippines, then he’s really going to do it anyways. When this happens we begin to follow and emulate China more, both culturally and legally right down to banning LGBT and porn. We might begin to ally more with China that we officially become part of its attempt at building an East Asian Union, alongside Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia and several more. The East Asian Union will be the eastern counterpart to the renewed Soviet Union (which is the European Union reformed due to Russian influence).

I feel if we start emulating China a lot right down to co-opting its laws and turning them into ours, that’s when we realise how much we have sinned as a Christian nation. We’ve gotten too lenient on LGBT and porn that we don’t know how far we’ve fallen from the Lord, when America falls we start realising what we’ve done wrong, turn to God and China more to the point of emulating and following the latter a lot more. Then there are other ways American influence will be undone in the Philippines, not just the decline of English (let alone American English) but also our love of America will diminish.

Maybe not immediately nor completely, but where our disdain for America grows the more incompetent it turns out to be. When America falls into a civil war and has many of its banks go into administration, that’s when we start criticising it more for its failings. American music will not be played much in Philippine radios, that will be filled in by Chinese and Philippine music more over time. We will see less American products being imported into the Philippines, everything will be from China from then on. Anything American will be eventually banned in the Philippines.

It would be horrifying if many Americans found themselves enslaved by the Russians and Chinese, they will forcibly brought into European and Chinese households and institutions for sex and what not. This is America’s comeuppance for not only slavery, but also sex trafficking when it comes to Russian and Chinese mail order brides. Americans will find themselves working as prostitutes for Chinese and European brothels, they will even work as servants for rich Europeans and Chinese alike. Americans will find themselves working in factories for European and Chinese companies.

Anti-American sentiment will grow in the Philippines in the years to come, the more America plunges into a civil war and when many of its banks go into administration. We wouldn’t just emulate China more, but also Nigeria which will also become a superpower one day. If China’s what we end up emulating, admiring and following more as we get closer to it as well as other East Asian countries, Nigeria will be our biggest Anglophone link to the point where we starting emulating its version of the English language. Watch out if Filipinos use more Nigerian spellings and so on.

We will even cheer on Nigeria for bombing America in WWIII, which is how much the Philippines will come to resent the United States as to indulge in schadenfreude in the future. Now as for America’s relatives Britain and Canada, they will agree to become Russian protectorates or commonwealths of sorts in WWIII to avoid being nuked badly by Russia the way it would to America. Russian language will become a big lingua franca throughout Europe and Canada, the more they ally themselves with Russia. Canada will even start forming pacts with Russia soon.

Whatever that happens, America will fall down. Its allies will no longer support nor condone it, especially at the day of its calamity. American entertainment will no longer be popular throughout the world, but it becomes dramatically undone in its allies like the Philippines once they align themselves more with China. Or in Canada and Britain’s case, Russia.

About Time

If I’m not mistaken, when it comes to Canada it’s caught in a quandary where it is both culturally and geographically close to America but also not quite it given its stronger tie to the United Kingdom. This might explain why superheroes as written by actual Canadians seem to be in an awkward position of being almost but never quite superheroy in some regards, since it’s in this uncanny middle ground of being almost like a regular American superhero story but also not quite it too.

The original authors of the Northguard stories have gone on to satirise Canada with Angloman, but the use of geopolitical commentary’s there in Northguard as well. Compare this to the unabashed jingoism of something like Superman where he fights for truth, justice and the American way. Another Canadian nationalistic hero, Captain Canuck, has never been described in the same way and still isn’t. Superman even epitomises the American immigrant experience and the American heartland.

Well, what Superman’s adoptive parents are farmers while the same can’t be said of both Northguard and Captain Canuck, the only Canadian superheroes to be explicitly associated with a given province are Kebec and Fleur de Lys. Even if Canadians attempt to do nationalistic superheroes, they neither come off as reverently nationalistic (Angloman) nor are this nationalistic as their American counterparts are (Northguard, Captain Canuck).

But I think Canada might have a chance at having a genuinely distinct take on the superhero genre, that is without being constantly overshadowed by America due to some number of reasons. One of which is rather unlikely and kind of shocking to say the least, perhaps it’s best to turn to the path rarely ever taken. The use of superheroes as actual police officers may have been done before, especially by Alan Moore if I’m not mistaken.

The fact that he’s British makes such a take all the more novel as it’s barely ever attempted before, or at least not done that frequently given DC and Marvel do have proper detectives. The fact that America has a strong tradition of vigilantism would make an uneasy fit for both Canadian and British cultures, but I think the superhero-cop hybrid angle would be a good way to differentiate the Canadian school of superhero writing from its American counterpart. If because that takes superheroes to a rarely done direction.

Imagine if superheroes were actually and legally law enforcers, police officers and detectives who use their powers for forensic investigation. That’s pretty different from American superheroes like Barry Allen who are technically law enforcers but resort to vigilantism to take on criminals, I feel by hewing superheroes more closely to crime fiction would give it a big edge over the American school of superhero writing since it’s something that might align more with Canadian values.

That’s my preference to be honest but it is necessary for the Canadian superhero school to find its own voice if it doesn’t want to be overshadowed by or assimilated into its American counterpart, since it would be wiser to pursue and peruse conventions of another genre altogether to actually stand out in a good way. So using crime fiction as a major base and influence would be one interesting and meaningful way to make the Canadian superhero school stand out without being readily assimilated into its American counterpart.

Then we get into one unlikely factor that would make the Canadian superhero school actually stand out is when America goes into a big decline, that’s if you believe somebody like Celestial and her blog The Master’s Voice. It’s full of prophecies, some of which have already been fulfilled in some way. She has a series of prophecies detailing America’s inevitable decline and fall from grace, both geopolitically and spiritually.

If America does decline as a superpower, which it will in the near future, on one hand Canada might need a new superpower to look up even if it’s something as shocking as Russia. On the other hand, America’s loss would be Canada’s gain. Canada is culturally similar to America enough to act as an adequate substitute, at least when it comes to soft power.

Celestial had this prophecy where Americans would flee to neighbouring countries for safety during the second civil war, which will happen in 2024 if Donald Trump ever gets shot and Kamala Harris does become US president. Some of them might be Christians who will have a shot at starting life again, continue their ministries there and even allow revivals to happen in both Mexico and Canada. They might even be the lucky ones as they will lead normal lives again, even if they now live in another country altogether. If America becomes a Russian colony, then Canada would be its nostalgic reflection.

Canada will house a substantial number of American refugees, since America and Canada are this culturally similar that they could easily assimilate into Canadian culture. Even if American entertainment continues to be made and exported elsewhere, it will eventually decline over time the more America declines as a superpower and the backlash aimed at it grows stronger even in its former allies and colonies like the Philippines and Nigeria. Nigeria will bear such a grudge towards America for enslaving Africans that it will make the Congo nuke it to pay for its crimes.

So the backlash towards America and anything American will be strengthened over the years, the more America gets into real trouble once Barack Obama becomes US president the third time. Kamala Harris would be the president in the interim, but even her term will cause America to sink real badly. It would be real hard to be proudly American because by then some will become ashamed to be American, if because America’s heading into big trouble and there’s nothing that will stop nor prevent this from happening.

American entertainment conglomerates might not stand a chance, at least reputation wise the more they start killing Christians when the Beast System is installed in earnest. They might still be successful in the near future, but even they will be brought down by factors beyond their control. Especially if it’s something that hurts their reputation and brand image, to the point where Canadian brands are the more socially acceptable and beloved substitutes. Marvel’s reputation would be really tarnished if its owner starts killing Christians.

Its Canadian counterpart would go unscathed and become more widely beloved by many, in fact it could even happen before America becomes overrun by the Beast System. I had this prophecy somewhere that Disney’s legacy will be undone, in fact in ways that would be unthinkable to the modern mind. Disney will be usurped by something else, so Marvel will be usurped by something else as well. Something will take Disney’s place as the leading family entertainment company/brand, logically something else will take Marvel’s place as the leading superhero brand.

It might not even be Canadian, but if America does decline as a superpower then the Canadian superhero school will finally stand out more meaningfully. Without DC and Marvel overshadowing it, the Canadian superhero school might even develop in ways the American superhero school never bothered to. The Canadian superhero school might have its chance to shine, though I think it takes two unconsidered factors for it to actually stand out more.

NY State of Mind

Celestial had a prophecy where New York City will be nuked several times, most likely due to its sins being so grievous and heinous that God will remove it. He will do the same or similar to other US cities like Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco, even if the actual solutions will turn out differently from what New York will be getting. To anybody who likes anything associated with New York City, it would be a bittersweet goodbye to the things they cherished. It could be memories of the MET Gala and the MET Museum, it could be Marvel Comics, it could be anything else they like about New York City that will be unfortunately be wiped out when he sees fit.

If one is not mistaken, it isn’t just that New York City has a thriving LGBT community but also many other problems like witchcraft and what have it. Even if it were possible for New York City to continue existing after WWIII, it will not return to prominence anymore after this happens at all. This is also what will befall any other American city for grieving God a lot and not repenting in any way, even if the outcomes and solutions aren’t identical to what New York City will go through. If New York City does get nuked multiple times, I can imagine how it will affect not just its people but also buildings and the like where they will be destroyed beyond recognition and become radioactive.

Marvel comic books will disappear in an instant, the MET Museum will be rendered unusable due to radioactivity and so on. Cancer rates wouldn’t just skyrocket and so do certain other mutations, but also since everything else is rendered radioactive famine will predictably follow. Admittedly, famine wouldn’t just be an American thing as this will affect the entire world but most especially the western world for sinning against God so much. That the west was the epicentre of Christianity but has since fallen into sin says a lot about its comeuppance for not repenting in any way and so on, I even think the west will be this badly affected by WWIII.

Russia will nuke western cities when it sees fit, send in biological weapons of destruction to wipe out belligerent Europeans and threaten any European country with violence and nuking if it doesn’t follow Russia’s ordinance. I think during WWIII, all European countries and of Canada will fall under Russian governance as commonwealths and vassal states of sorts. They will do this so that they won’t be nuked as badly as what both Switzerland and America will be getting, life in the western world will never be the same again when these happen. While America will be punished the most, the rest of the west will suffer badly.

Bad governance, famine, mass death by disease, more STDs spiking to the point where it’s Europe this time that will be the epicentre of a much deadlier STD than AIDS and so on. As Canada partook in America’s sins, it will suffer some of the same problems that will befall its twin. Canada will cower in fear of being nuked like what happened to its twin sibling that it will do anything to come under Russian rule to avoid America’s fate, a frightening reminder of those who follow Mystery Babylon will sow and reap. Better that they ally more with Russia, than to suffer the same way America will go through in the future.

I Knew You Were Trouble

According to somebody like Celestial, America will be in big trouble for its many sins. First we have rising debt and soaring poverty, where America will go from the richest country on Earth to one of the poorest. Even worse even if it still has at least half of the wealth it currently has in the future, America will still lose out to other countries when it not only gets into a civil war but also WWIII. This is the big one and where America will actually be a loser, one where it will be the pawn of both China and Russia (which are its political enemies).

So much so that it would be better for its allies like the Philippines to warm up to China more, if because America really is up to no good if you believe God and his emissaries. Second, because of their close relationship with America (geopolitical, cultural and physio-geographical), both Mexico and Canada will be caught in the crossfire for sharing many of the same vices America indulges in. Like I implied earlier, it doesn’t help when they’re all on the same continent that if God will punish it, it’s going to affect its neighbours as well to some extent.

Also if America were to be split in half by a big earthquake, it will also affect Canada and Mexico to a degree. Since North America’s sometimes called Turtle Island by some indigenous people, if America were to be partitioned by an earthquake we should better start calling it Alligator Snapping Turtle Island because it will look like the carapace of an alligator snapping turtle. Ridges all over and a bad attitude to match, it’s not the most flattering nickname for such a continent. But the shoe will fit way too well.

Another is the rise of hunger and famine in the United States, a kind of grim comeuppance for its immense gluttony. This is one area where America can be unmistakably regarded as a bad influence, especially when it comes to the popularisation of both junk and fast food. That’s not to say there wasn’t any junk and fast food before, but when many fast food and junk food brands* are American in origin then America is to blame for this. One could easily imagine the companies behind these brands going into administration.

It would be all the more a reason to prioritise local and even Chinese brands more, if because it’s been prophesised that American businesses will go under real badly. It doesn’t help when around 32% of Americans eat fast food because it’s cheap and that 50% of American students eat three fast food meals a week, that it ‘s really gluttonous. If its material abundance will be taken away by both God and its governance, then it’s a comeuppance for its immense greed.

While there are truly generous Americans out there, but when so many Americans enjoy gorging on so much stuff that it will be taken away. America is a really greedy, gluttonous and proud nation, so proud of its Christian heritage that it’s ironically going to be the very thing that will be taken away from it. Pride goes before the fall, so America’s pride will bring it down real badly. Even if not all Americans are this bad, but America will be judged so most Americans will be judged for their sins anyways.

*I’m looking at you Mondelez, Yum Brands, Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, Subway, McDonald’s, Dunkin, Starbucks, Mars, Hershey, Wendy’s and Kraft Heinz.

Need for new alliances

It’s been said elsewhere that America will be invaded by both China and Russia, that Russia will turn it into a colony and have other Western countries become its commonwealths and protectorates of sorts says a lot about them backsliding and never repenting of their sins. If Britain is America’s mother, Canada is America’s twin sibling. Not just any twin, but identical twins* in some sense. Both Americans and Canadians sound alike (to me), share cultural traditions, land and settler colonialism together and that Canadians do get mistaken for Americans makes me think that Canada, of all the countries I can think of, is the most similar to America.

I actually prefer that both Canada and Britain would ally more with Russia, given I don’t want them to be dragged together with America. If Canada does agree to become a Russian protectorate, it would get off more easily since it can have cake and eat it too for as long as Russia allows it to. Not to mention Celestial has this prophecy about former Soviet states like Latvia returning to Russia in some way, especially in the war against America that for America’s reputation as a Christian colony, its love for religious freedom has become its crutch. Particularly when it didn’t put astrology on the kibosh, when it got brought over by Germans and got localised there.

You may know this as Appalachian astrology, which means the well was going to be poisoned in hindsight. Like I said and I will expound on it, I actually prayed that Canada and Britain should ally more with Russia since I don’t want them to get caught in the crossfire America will end up in. I like Canada more than America, you should know what I want it to end up as. Better to become an ally of Russia and still live normally, than to get nuked and turned into the world’s factory worker. America, as a hyperpower, was known as the world’s police officer.

If Russia does turn it into a colony and have many of its people enslaved, so America will become the world’s factory worker as it will be the country that supplies cheap labour to whatever country it services. It wouldn’t be much of a stretch that Asian animation studios will use it to do the grunt work, a kind of role reversal since American animation studios did this with the Philippines, Japan and South Korea. That both Russia and China will exploit its natural resources for their own economies, maybe India and Nigeria as well should they become superpowers too says a lot about America’s moral downfall.

As for the Philippines, it’s better off with China despite its faults. As a Christian majority country, it should know better should it not get entangled in the same trap America and Europe will end up in. China may be nosy but let’s face it, it not only has a growing Christian population but also manages to do certain things right. If the Bible looks down on homosexuality and pornography, by banning and criminalising these China’s actually doing something right. But that involves seeing countries the way God sees them as, evaluating them spiritually and biblically.

The west has a reputation for democracy and liberty, but when it uses it to condone whatever the Bible condemns and that the west used to be Christian it will be convicted more harshly. I don’t think many Filipinos will realise this, given we tend to be too reverential of America and the west than what’s spiritually needed. The fact that some people even think America is Mystery Babylon should tell you that appearances are deceiving, we can’t rely a lot on human judgement if God’s wisdom is more valuable. If it’s more valuable, we should heed to it anyways.

So it’s best that Canada and Britain should cozy up to Russia, or the Philippines with China because America is up to no good despite being founded as a Christian country. Whatever happens will happen, once both Europe and America get their comeuppances.

*Even identical twins themselves aren’t completely identical, whether genetically or behaviourally but calling Canada America’s identical twin is to give you an idea of how similar they are in some respects.

Up North

Canada is kind of interesting in its own right, especially when it comes to how its cultural identity is built on both France and Britain. What’s even more fascinating is that Canada does have its own superheroes, but it’s only now that it has its own shared universe. That’s right it took more than a decade for Canada to get its own shared universe of superheroes, these are mainly published by Lev Gleason (formerly Chapterhouse Comics). There were superhero comics in Canada before, such as Nelvana and Iron Man then you have Captain Canuck and Northguard.

It’s not uncommon for Canadians to work on US-based superhero magazines, at this point some Canadian cartoonists who worked on any one of the Lev Gleason magazines also worked on any one of the DC and Marvel magazines. Out of all the nationalities that worked for DC and Marvel, it’s Canada that’s next door both geographically and culturally. This is pretty much why Canadians get mistaken for Americans, if you want me to be honest the Canadian accent is practically or at least mostly indistinguishable from the general American accent.

But even then, Canada has its own culture that anything written by a Canadian will reflect a Canadian sensibility to varying degrees. So it is with Canadian superhero stories, where any attempts at creating a Canadian superhero will involve infusing American concepts with a Canadian touch.

No Way Home

If a second civil war were to happen in America, and it will be the first to happen in years, it would be wise to leave ahead of time if things will get worse. With a new president around who would unintentionally instigate another civil war, people will better leave America for greener pastures if they don’t want to be victimised any further. I actually prayed to God to have Christians leave America for Mexico and Canada, with Katy Perry heading to Turkey and Grant Gustin for Italy.

This would be a good thing because not only would they be safer there, but also preach the gospel to the unreached without being bothered a lot. Pastors will reach out to many more people there in Canada and Mexico, there will be revivals of sorts as well and their websites will continue as expected after moving. They will even offer the same devotionals in French and Spanish, once they adapt to those countries and it will take time adjusting themselves there.

But at least they wouldn’t be harassed a lot by pro-Harris supporters, should she become president of America where there will be profound anti-Christian laws from then on. Those who never leave America for elsewhere like Canada, Jamaica, Mexico and Turkey will really be caught in the crossfire, with home becoming the most dangerous place they’ll have to die or survive. Some will never make it, some who have cancer will suffer real badly in America.

Not just due to America’s peculiar health policy, but also where all the budget gets spent on warfare. An actress with cancer will die anyways, especially if the money needed for her survival is spent on literally fighting against political enemies. More people will get conscripted, this includes those who you least expect. Civil war happens when Kamala Harris becomes president, that’s when hotter tempers prevail and most damningly too late to undo.

You either escape elsewhere for safety, or you stay here and suffer real badly. The new civil war will be the bloodiest America has ever encountered, one prior to World War Three where it will get bombed many times over. Even worse, America’s allies will desert her for others. The Philippines and Japan will turn to China, Britain and France will turn to Russia. America will be left alone, eventually becoming a shadow of its former self in WWIII after the new civil war.

Quite grim, but this will happen.

What makes a Canadian superhero Canadian?

At some point, Marvel editors demanded that writers ought to create a Canadian character to appeal to the Canadian market but they made one existing character Canadian. That character is Wolverine, who was originally supposed to be from North Carolina. While Canadian, he never got a stamp in that country. It seems even if writers tried to make him as Canadian as possible, he never came off as authentically Canadian. While not a polite character, it’s quite possible he only seems Canadian to American readers (and writers) because he’s their idea of a Canadian. Up north, rustic and sort of like the Midwest.

Outdoorsy even, but I personally feel this is possibly and probably why Canadians never adopted him as their own. It’s really more of an American idea of Canada, rather than how Canadians see their own country. It’s not that Canadians never invented superheroes, one of the first to emerge is Nelvanna. Another would be Captain Canuck, but these characters aren’t so well-known to the general Canadian public. More would see Nelvana as the name of an animation studio than as a superhero character, even though it’s named after her. These characters are rediscovered in some way or another.

They make headlines, they have encyclopedia entries. But they’re not as popular as their American counterparts are, they’re nowhere as notable as Franklin the Turtle and even Caillou are. When it comes to what makes a character authentically represent the cultures and countries they come from, there’s the risk of stereotyping and inauthenticity if they’re not created by somebody of their ethnicity. DC’s Fire ran into this problem, she’s Brazilian but has been portrayed speaking in Spanish. That’s without regarding the fact that Brazilians speak Portuguese, so the risk is there when writers aren’t careful.

There are a handful of ways getting around this, do the research, hang out in that community or go to that country if you’re willing to go the extra mile and spend more on that. Though in John Byrne’s case, since he doesn’t seem to be that interested in Canadian history this could explain why Canadian readers took issue when he started writing the Alpha Flight stories, Alpha Flight being a Canadian superhero team in the Marvel world. It’s not that Canadians can’t write or do memorable superhero characters, they have to some extent.

But I also think it’s possible that even if Canadians do come up with their own superheroes and likely are renowned in their own right, they don’t have the same clout that their American counterparts yield. I guess that’s the thing with Philippine superheroes, they do have their fans but the problem is, with the exception of Philippine comic strips which are republished in book format, a lot of Philippine magazine comics aren’t that well-preserved for whatever reason and circumstance. So those who have the Darna comics would at this point be a statistical rarity, perhaps rarer than those who own Pupung and Mang Ambo books.

If because these still get published in book format, they’re still available longer and in greater quantities than what you get with Darna. This too would’ve been the fate of many early Canadian superheroes, which makes their rediscovery all the more potent had surviving copies been in the hands of collectors for so long. So far the best known Canadian comic strip would be For Better Or Worse, whereas something like Captain Canuck has languished in relative obscurity for so long that it seems Canadian superheroes proper don’t have much of a chance against their American counterparts.

It’s not that Canada lacks any superheroes, but that country never had that much superhero comics whose adventures are preserved and reprinted for years to come the way American publishers like DC and Marvel have been doing for some time now. While the Philippines is different from both Canada and America, the fact that we don’t really have our equivalent to both DC and Marvel. Well whatever equivalent that may’ve existed no longer exists in any form, so most of the longest surviving Philippine comics tend to be newspaper cartoons like Pupung.

America’s actually rather lucky to have a large number of magazine comics (and their respective copies) preserved in any way, though there certainly are American publishers no longer in existence but a good number of them have survived to this day. But that would be largely due to the brand recognition that DC and Marvel enjoy for years, something that has escaped earlier Philippine publishing houses like GASI. This is also very much the fate of Canadian and Australian superheroes when one thinks about it, whatever Canadian comics publisher may’ve existed no longer does.

This might be one of the reasons why Canada doesn’t have its equivalent to both DC and Marvel, let alone for as long as these two continue existing. Well what makes a certain superhero reflective of their country of origin is bound to be beholden to their nations’ cultural sensibilities. Something like Guardiani Italiani has a strong Italian flavour to it, not just because the characters themselves are Italian but they’re Italian in a way DC’s very own Helena Bertinelli isn’t. Which says a lot about cultural authenticity far more than merely researching about it does.
