Just had a moment of synchronicity here, I was listening to Stephen Fry’s new podcast “Great Leap Years” (https://acast.com/greatleapyears) and the first episode was exactly about origins of capitalism and where we are today economically speaking. Loved this!
I get the feeling that in an age of capitalism, especially in countries that were former kingdoms and empires (in the proper historical sense), businessmen and traders act as kings and emperors respectively.
