Cult television

Cult television is one of those things that obviously attract a dedicated following. Stuff like news reports, reality programmes and documentaries that dwell on more mainstream topics, sports, talk shows and contestant programmes like The Voice are obviously going to have a bigger audience than say Game of Thrones which predictably attract nerds.

The average Ugandan, Cameroonian, Zimbabwean or Philippine viewer would tend to watch news and telenovelas with some of them watching fashion, sports, cooking, music videos or documentaries even on animals. Fewer still would bother watching more fantastical fare, which is practically unrelatable and boring to others.

Hence lower ratings, it’s got a vocal audience but not enough to compensate.
